in being with that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts..this is for my friend Dan, who lives in San Francisco now..it’s been some time since we’ve been able to play music together, but ten years ago we lived in basements and he would play the keys and i would play the mandolin and we would try to play this jammed out reggae dub style music as much as we could possibly try to, and our friends James and Jon would accompany in with trumpet and drums respectively..i don’t even know where James or Jon are to this day, but that was the whole mystique behind our little outfit we titled as Jah Majesty’s Secret Service, just a small jam where we didn’t know where it would take us..we still don’t…
this lil ditty here is with a lot of that in mind…

some things i’ve been thinking about lately is how the sun shines this time of year, on this side of the solstice and the new year, this side of winter time..the frigid season now upon us..blue illuminations…

wakin up earlier on weekends than weekdays..remember when i was little, always gettin up the earliest on saturdays to catch the morning cartoons..now i wake up early and catch up on stuff i haven’t been able to do during the week..listening to old albums..checking out new stuff on the internets..this morning, it was Kanye’s first album..haven’t listened to that album in a lil bit…

Rainbow Brightly from racecardriver’s upcoming album Lake Metroid due out Oct. 5th

new racecardriver release in the form of cassette comin’ out on I had An Accident Records, next Tuesday, Oct. 05, 2010..seven songs recorded this past summer that is titled ‘Lake Metroid’..C32 on green tapes, limited to 30!..totally influenced by many weekends up in northern michigan this summer, lakes, water, trees, horses..i still haven’t ridden a horse, which seems to be killin’ me in a number of ways..so many visions of riding on open plains somewhere in western mountains or desert scapes..but anyway, i digress..the tracklist for ‘Lake Metroid’ is below:

letters to me..letters to you..series of emails/correspondences within you and among you..every travel still fresh in my head..every day is waking from death..why sleep?..i don’t want to sleep…

been waking up so early in the mornings..watch the sunrise with a cup of coffee, write, listen to songs, check out new songs…

woke up oh so early over labor day weekend with a house completely to myself and i think i ended up recording another album over those few days all while sitting in bed with a keyboard, mandolin and a distortion pedal..here’s some lyrics to one of the songs from that weekend:

been holdin up from posting any new songs here, mostly outtakes, jams and backing tracks that i would lay down and that i just got bored with and didn’t feel like doing anything with anymore..instead of posting stuff, i worked on a bunch of songs over the summer, and some of them are actually gonna see physical release in the form of cassette tape here real soon, one of which is gonna be on October 5th, on I had An Accident Records (ihadanaccident.tumblr.com), a sweet label run by some awesome people, Justin Bieler and Julia LaDense, out of the state of Maryland..over the last year, i found myself getting into a lot of the sounds and musicians off this label and just generally feeling influenced a lot by the new music i was finding out about just by checking out what these two were releasing..so i’m really really excited to have the first non-self-released ‘racecardriver’ jam released by this label..check out the link below to their bandcamp site, and you’re able to listen to a lot of the releases they put out and get acquainted with all the sweet as fuck sounds that are there:

in march, i handed out a tape to some friends of some of the recent jams i’d been working on..the song here is one of the songs on the tape, but has a vocal take on it..i ended up keeping the song as an instrumental interlude, taking out the vocals ‘cause i just couldn’t work in the lyrics right…
